Simulator Training for Saturation Diving Supervisors

Overview

Working with PaleBlue who has designed the simulator and diver virtual reality system, KBAT is pleased to be able to bring this exciting new training and competency development tool to our clients. The simulator training for Saturation Diving Supervisors has been designed to give the IMCA Trainee BELL Diving Supervisors hands-on experience of operating a realistic dive panel while conducting actual diving operation procedures and dives. The simulator offers an extensive range of emergency scenarios that would not be possible to practice on an actual dive job, but may actually happen, therefore the simulator prepares you for the unexpected from a DP Run Off, Loss of Gas, Loss of Comms, contaminated bell and much more.

Comprising of a touchpanel-based digital simulator including actual video of working divers, the system allows for full operational requirements of a control panel, the ‘Dive Control Simulator’ provides the ideal system to log your trainee panel hours, prepare for project operations and emergency situations, or for contractors to validate competence for ‘return to work’ personal who have not been supervising for a period of time.

Simulator Learning Outcomes

At the end of the training period on the dive control simulator, delegates will have developed the following competencies:

A Supervisor gaining panel hours (Trainee)

  • Develop confidence in setting up and using a complex saturation diving supervisors panel
  • Complete detailed operational checklists
  • Follow operation plans
  • Communicate to divers in normal and emergency modes
  • Communicate to all personnel involved in a diving operation – Bridge, Crane Operator, Deck team etc
  • Respond to introduced normal work task situations and full range emergency situations
  • Manage and control SIMOP situations

Competency Development for Certified Diving Supervisors

  • Return-to-Work training and evaluation
  • Refresh setting up the dive control panel
  • Develop the skills and responses for full range of emergency situations that are not possible to run during an actual diving project
  • Develop SIMOP operations and competence

Course Benefits

When a trainee bell diving supervisor completes his IMCA Trainee BELL Supervisor course, it is daunting to sit on the panel offshore for the first time and this simulator training will definitely prepare the trainee. Through the simulator training, he will be more confident and aware when starting to work as a trainee supervisor, plus it provides him with the valuable panel hours in preparation for taking IMCA exam.

  • Up to 70 panel hours and 10 bell runs can be gained by 35 hours on the simulator; simulator hours count for double hours by IMCA (Ref IMCA D 013)
  • It enables experienced diving supervisors to run emergency scenarios that cannot be scheduled to such detail and extent while on the offshore projects. The simulator training enables personnel to familarise and sharpen their skill and competence in areas difficult to cover during the day to day operations.
  • Increase safety by training personnel on emergency procedures
  • Increase efficiency by training during pre-operation project phase
  • Develop and sustain competence through targeted customised training
  • Assess competence of new employees
  • Return-to-Work management—when diving supervisors have not worked for an extensive period— attending this simulator training will enable a safe Return to Work system and save valuable time on site.

Information on our Simulator

Training will be ‘hands-on’ using our Class B simulator, including panel orientation, bell checks, pre-dive lockout checks, bell launch procedures, routine dive procedures and emergency drills and contingencies in realistic scenarios.

Dive Simulator Fees

Assessment and Certification

Dives supervised will be logged in the trainees’ supervisor log book.
